About Northwestern Renewables

In 2016, Gavin Tenold was the Inland Northwest’s first and only certified consultant and builder of energy efficient Passive Houses. While working alongside Master Electrician Harlan Heise on these highly technical, custom homes, the two men quickly recognized the region’s vast lack of high-quality solar energy experts. 

Out of this came a vision to combine their collective experience and expertise and bring better solar and renewable energy options to the Inland Northwest, offering the highest quality products and exceptional service, with an unmatched 25-year warranty.

Today, Northwest Renewables is the region’s leader in solar design, solar installation, solar battery systems, electric vehicle chargers, generators, and Mitsubishi ductless heating and cooling systems.  With an incredible team of highly-trained and certified experts, Northwest Renewables is raising the bar, and elevating energy independence for homeowners and commercial clients across the Inland Northwest.

  • Harlan Heise

    Owner and Master Electrician | NABCEP PV Installation Professional

    A second-generation master electrician, Harlan’s career began at the Northwest’s leading sources of renewable power: the hydroelectric dams of the Columbia and Snake Rivers. Returning home to Spokane, he partnered in his father’s commercial electrical contracting business, Heise Electric., transforming it into a regional player in the industrial electrical sector.  Harlan founded Northwest Renewables to put his industrial electrical experience to work in the burgeoning solar energy and energy services field.

  • Gavin Tenold

    Owner and General Contractor | Certified Passive House Consultant | PHIUS Certified Builder

    An accomplished builder, carpenter and project manager, Gavin founded Pura Vida High Performance Builders, a leading firm specializing in Passive House energy-efficient construction. Gavin brings special expertise in construction, craftsmanship, project management and the integration of energy systems into high-performance buildings. Gavin sits on the Board of Directors for WA Solar Energy Installers Association (WASEIA), and is Chair of the policy committee. In this role, he works closely with state lawmakers and regulators to craft effective policy that encourages the deployment of distributed energy resources state-wide. Gavin represented the solar installation industry on the State Building Code Council's technical advisory group for the 2021 Commercial and Residential Energy Code updates.

  • Anne Tenold

    Owner and Customer Experience Director

    With more than 20 years of business development experience in insurance, healthcare and software, Anne does everything from consulting with homeowners on their solar energy system to managing Northwest Renewables marketing strategy. As a passionate connector and native Spokanite, Anne has sat on several boards, and is the former Board Chair of the Lands Council. When Anne is not working, she and her family can be found paddle boarding, hiking along the Spokane River and Bluff Trails, camping or enjoying Priest Lake.

  • Brandon Ellison

    Lead Electrician | Battery System Specialist

    With 18 years as an electrician and battery installer, Brandon ensures that our projects meet NEC specifications and mentors each of our apprentices.  Brandon loves to play outside with his wife and daughter, and describes himself as innately curious when it comes to his work, which – combined with his vast experience – has made him a go-to problem solver for Northwest Renewables.  Brandon is a certified installer for Panasonic, Sonnen, and Enphase battery systems as well as Northwest Renewables’ Generac Generators.

  • Max Gorkovchenko

    Lead Solar Designer

    Max is at the forefront of our custom solar energy systems, specifically designing each system for the parameters of the project to maximize solar production for the customer.  With a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Eastern Washington University, Max works with our clients to make sure their sustainability and energy needs are met both now and in the long term.  He loves how unique each project is and being a part of a growing business that’s making a difference in his community.

    Doug brings 35 years of experience in electrical contracting in Washington and Idaho, from residential to large commercial projects. His deep knowledge of estimating and project management brings extra expertise to your project.

  • Rachel Smith

    Office Manager

    As the go-to person at Northwest Renewables for everything from providing HR to IT to assisting with the sales process – as well as making sure the crew has snacks on hand – Rachel keeps Northwest Renewables’ operations running smoothly.  Because of Rachel, our team has everything they need to complete projects efficiently and effectively.  She’s our very own “chaos coordinator,” as she puts it.

  • Jared Diehl

    Homebuilder Project Manager

    Jared handles scheduling, permitting, ordering, QA/QC, and more for Northwest Renewables homebuilder clients.  A graduate of Western Washington University with a BA in Business and Sustainability, he is a committed problem solver for all things project management.  An avid climber who is known for providing a dose of comic relief around the office and shop, Jared is passionate about the renewable energy industry and loves working with the team at Northwest Renewables who all share in that passion.

  • George Vedder

    Journeyman Electrician | Lead Mitsubishi Heating and Cooling Technician

    A veteran electrician and HVAC tech, with more than 40 years of experience, George oversees all of our Mitsubishi ductless heating and cooling installations.  A true expert of his craft, he’s also a valuable mentor to our newer technicians showing them the tricks of the trade he’s picked up during his extensive career. What George says he loves most about working at Northwest Renewables is the extraordinary group of people on his team and the respect they show for their work and each other.

  • Patrick Mannhard

    Journeyman Electrician | Lead Solar Installer

    Patrick began installing renewable energy systems after working in organic farming. Now a licensed residential electrician, Patrick can be found flyfishing after work or cooking his famous barbeque chili.

  • Isaac Harmson

    Journeyman Electrician | Mitsubishi Heating and Cooling Technician | Lead Solar Installer

    Isaac has been installing renewable energy systems and Mitsubishi Heating and Cooling systems for more than three years.  Isaac has a BA in Environmental Science from the Evergreen State University.  An avid waterman commonly found on the Spokane River, Isaac is passionate about bringing energy projects to the Inland Northwest, but also working on his “harness tan” when he’s at the job site.

    Commercial Sales Consultant

    Kevin C. joined the NWR team after 25 years in commercial real estate and hospitality management. He is particularly interested in working with solar-curious commercial prospects to maximize government incentives for solar investment, minimizing the net cost of adding renewable energy systems to commercial properties.

    DJ is drawn to the renewable energy sector due to is dynamic and captivating nature. "I firmly belived that our contributions will yield a significant positive impact on our environment." When DJ is not at NWR you can find him exploring the outdoors with his partner and friends via van, bike, hinking, climing, and skiing.

    Rachael is an experienced customer service professional with over 15 years of experience. She is a valuable addition to any team and is often the first face guests see when they enter a business. Rachael is also a busy mother of four who thrives in a fast-paced, hectic work environment. She holds a Bachelor's degree in HR management and a Master's in business administration from Eastern Washington University. Rachael has used her education and experience to start a small family business and co-found a local non-profit organization in Spokane. Her dedication to her family, work, and community is truly inspiring.
