How Solar Works
After your system is designed and approved, it’s time for installation. But how do those panels, once installed, create power for your home? When sunlight hits your new panels, they’ll use it to generate direct current (DC) electricity. However, most of your appliances, fixtures, and outlets use alternating current (AC) electricity.
So after the DC electricity has been created by your solar panels, it goes to an inverter which will convert it into AC electricity. From there, your electrical panel will control and distribute that power the same way it manages the power you used to get from the electric company.
Your electrical meter will track the electricity you use, and if, at any moment your your solar array is creating more power than you’re consuming, the excess power will be sold back to the electric company for credits and/or rebates.
